  • Description

Fringe Tree (Chionanthus virginicus) is a deciduous small tree, typically reaching around 12-20′. Its name is a reference to its delicate fringe-like flowers, which develop in late Spring. It is tolerant of clay soil, black walnut, and air pollution- making it a good choice for urban settings. It serves as a stunning specimen tree, with its flower display becoming more spectacular as it ages. It looks nice in groups, or a specimen tree once it establishes itself. It is a host species for the amazing Rustic Sphinx moth (pictured above).
