  • Description

Pink Muhlygrass (Muhlenbergia capillaris) is a warm season grass that is used for its attractive foliage and spectacular fall flowers. Wiry, thread-like, dark green leaves form an attractive clump, and in the fall masses of airy, open, pink to pinkish-red flowers float above the foliage. Its tan seed plumes provide interest through winter. This hardy plant tolerates drought, poor soil, black walnut, and air pollution. This makes it an excellent, low maintenance addition in gardens where other plants will not grow or tolerate the conditions. It looks its best as borders, massed naturalized plantings (can cover large areas of poor soil), and in whimsical cottage style gardens. This species is a host plant for the Orange Skipperling butterfly and is important to native bees and birds for nest building material.
