  • Description

Pinxter Azalea (Rhododendron periclymenoides) is a dense, bushy shrub common to moist woods, swamp margins and open areas. Clusters of pale pink, fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers bloom in April right before the emergence of the foliage. These flowers are stunning and are irresistible to hummingbirds and butterflies! They are not very appreciative of hot summer sun or constantly wet feet, so they are a bit happier in cooler areas, and need good drainage (no clay soils). They are breathtaking as both a massed planting or a single specimen. They look good as shrub/mixed borders, as well as woodland/shade gardens. Also effective in foundation plantings or as a hedge.
