  • Description

Wild Ginger (Asarum canadensis)  is a low-growing plant with very attractive heart-shaped leaves. A great way to incorporate wild ginger into your garden would be as a ground cover or used in a rain garden. It tolerates deep shade, is deer resistant, and helps prevent erosion. It’s frequently found along river trails. Its maroon colored flowers aren’t easily seen because of their placement beneath the foliage. Wild ginger is one of the host plants for the lovely Pipevine Swallowtail Caterpillar (pictured above).
