These Are a Few of our Favorite Things – Gift Ideas for Gardeners

It’s the gifting time of year! Do you have a gardener in the family, or perhaps a colleague or friend that enjoys taking care of plants? We have compiled a list of products that we use personally, and think would make great gifts for any aspiring or established green thumbs on your holiday shopping list. Don’t forget gift cards from Direct Native Plants as well and get your plant loving giftee what they love the most!

We love the stainless steel Tomita weeding knife. It’s features both serrated and straightedge blades making it a wonderful landscaping and gardening tool, useful for dividing plants, planting bulbs, flowers and herbs, cutting sod, removing rocks, cutting through roots, digging weeds and so much more! The blade edge has millimeter and inch markings etched on to it so that you always place your bulbs and plants at the right depth. Blade size is 7.25 inches, the handle is 5.25 inches. Comes with a leather sheath.
This classic manual pruner from Felco features an anvil blade with a sap groove, so it doesn’t get stuck when you’re pruning new growth. The handles feature rubber cushions and a spring loaded shock absorber. This is the ideal pruner for light applications, and it’s easily adjustable. The pruner’s hardened steel blades also feature a wire cutting notch, and the pruner comes with a limited lifetime warranty. This pruner is 11 inches long and weighs 8.8 ounces.
The Merino Smartwool 250 Neck Gaiter is our go-to for our cold weather activities. This convenient alternative to a scarf flapping around while you try to work is made to stay comfortable all day long. Merino wool is one of nature’s most advanced fibers. It not only keeps you warm, but it wicks moisture away from your skin and is also odor-resistant. 100% Merino wool, one size fits most.
The True Temper Action Hoe from the AMES companies features a triangular shaped head and a flat steel band that cuts weeds just below the surface, using a push/pull motion. Cuts weeding times in half! You can even use it for minor re-grading, along with a garden rake! This hoe is great for weeding and cultivating around live plants. Weighs 2 pounds, features a 54 inch durable hardwood handle.
We prefer goatskin for our gardening gloves– they stay flexible once they’re wet, unlike other materials and they are softer on hands, too. These gloves feature a comfortable, breathable design and provides superior protection. Each palm is fitted with premium leather-grain goat skin for grip safety and protection against thorns, cuts and scrapes. Not just for gardens; you could use these for general work gloves, driving, rigging and more.
We love the microfiber cooling towel from Mission, in Polyester and Nylon when working on the garden during the hot days of summer. When you wet it, it can cool you down as much as 30 degrees below body temperature! It provides UPF 50 sun protection and it stays cool for hours. When it dries out, simply re-wet and re-apply for instant cooling!
These long sleeve pigskin gardening gloves ensure that you won’t get pricked when maintaining your thorny plants. These are super breathable, very durable, and make an excellent gift for your gardening friends. Elbow-length protection.
These hand pruners from Stihl are for when you need precision. They are ergonomically designed and feature hardened chrome plated blades. Each pruner has a limited lifetime warranty, and comes in different sizes so that whether you’re pruning flowers, vines or any other delicate plant you can have confidence behind every snip.
Weeds of the Northeast from Richard Uva, Joseph C. Neal and Joseph M. DiTomaso is an illustrated manual of almost 300 weeds in the Northeastern United States. Want the ability to kill weeds before they flower? This book includes a dichotomous key for every species identified. The first comprehensive weed identification manual for the Northeast US!
