Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) is a showy, white flowered shrub that enjoys wet open areas, periodic inundation, and rain gardens. The shape of its beautiful white flowers have been compared to a pin-cushion or a star-burst that attracts pollinators of all sorts. Buttonbush is a larval host for many species, a notable one being the amazing Royal Walnut Moth (pictured above). Buttonbush can handle a wide range of conditions – shade, wet, occasional flooding – making it a great choice for an adaptable, pollinator-friendly shrub.
