Description
Clusters of vibrant red, tube-like flowers top the stalks of this striking summer-flowering perennial. Cardinal Flower is found naturally in wet areas such as streambanks and swamps, so in the garden it prefers moist, rich soil. This plant is clump-forming, and can be divided every 2-3 years to spread throughout your garden or share with friends. Interestingly, several Native American tribes utilized Cardinal Flower for medicinal purposes, and the Pawnee even used parts to make a love charm! (Although we cannot attest to its effectiveness…) Cardinal Flower supports and attracts the ruby-throated hummingbird, its main pollinator, making it the perfect garden addition for any hummingbird enthusiast.
